Tiger tore up the golf course in the first round of the WGC-American Express Championship with a round that was made up of 7 birdies, 1 eagle and only 1 bogie. Posting a first round total of 8 under par 63, Tiger has the lead over Padraig Harrington of Ireland and Englishman Ian Poulter who both completed the par 71 course in 7 under 64, to trail Tiger by 1 stroke.

Ryder Cup Opponents Share Early Lead

The PGA Tour resumes this week at the WGC American Express Championship being played in England. Early in the first round, Ryder cup opponents Stewart Cink and Padraig Harrington share the lead at 4 under par. Tiger Woods who is also competing this week in England in going for his 6 PGA Tour victory in a row.

World Cup of Golf Goes To China

It has been announce by the International Federation of PGA Tours that the 2007 and 2008 World Cup will be played in China. The World Cup has been played at some of the Top Golf Courses in the World since it’s start in 1999, will be making its first appearance in China at the Jose Marie Olazabal designed Mission Hills Golf Club. Up to 28 nations including China will be represented.
The agreement consists of Mission Hills Golf Club hosting the World Cup in 2007 and 2008 and will also host a World Golf Championship event through 2018.

Europeans Romp In Ireland

The European team once again dominated the United States handing them a loss equalling the pounding that was set upon them 2 years ago in Michigan. The final score of 18.5 to 9.5 was all too familiar for the American side. Despite the lopsided victory, there was some spectacular golf played over the Palmer Course at the K Club by both sides during Sunday’s singles matches.
No matter what team you where pulling for, if you enjoy good golf there was a period on Sunday as the matches had moved to the back nine that was filled with spectacular shot making, players bombing in putts, chipping in from all over, approach shots dancing around the cup and even a hole in one. Great Golf!
Darren Clarke provided an emotional storyline at this years Ryder Cup and his golf was up to the task as he went undefeated, confirming Ian Woosnam’s choice of making Clarke a Captain’s pick. All the emotion of the week were finally able to coming pouring out on the 16th green for Clarke following his victory over Zach Johnson. Clarke playing with a heavy heart following the death of his wife Heather only a short 6 weeks ago, received well wishes and support from players and fans on both sides.

Sergio Garcia continued his uncanny ability to rise to the occasion and dominate in Ryder Cup matches. Through the first two days of competition Sergio is a perfect 4 and 0, providing the power source for the European teams 10 points to 6 advantage over the United States heading into Sunday’s singles matches.
Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk provided team U.S.A.’s only full point in Saturday’s afternoon foursomes matches with their victory over Ireland’s Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley. Paul Casey provided some highlight reel footage with his ace on the par 3 14th hole, that sealed he and his partner David Howell’s match as they beat Stewart Cink and Zack Johnson 5 and 4.
The United States will now need to mount the same miraculous comeback that they somehow managed in 1999 at The Country Club in Brookline.

The folks at Shotlink, the data collection system that is used by the PGA Tour has taken a deeper look at their collected information and have provided some statistically sound pairing suggestions for the upcoming Ryder Cup. Shotlink, which has been in use on the PGA Tour since 2001 records data on every shot taken by each player in PGA events, keeping track of statistics such as fairways hit, greens in regulation, short game prowess not only for individual players but for the entire field also. Using this data the following pairings are the ones that statistically speaking would work best for captain Tom Lehman.

Ben Curtis’ win by 2 strokes was his second victory of the year on the PGA Tour, perhaps eliminating the doubts of those who felt he was just another flash in the pan, Cinderella story when he won the British Open in 2003. Curtis won the 84 Lumber Classic by 2 strokes over Charles Howell III.

American Shaun Micheel will face Paul Casey of England in the final of the HSBC World Match Play Championship Sunday at Wentworth in England. The winner will take home the largest check ever presented in an official tournament.
Following up his upset of World number 1 Tiger Woods in the first round 4 and 3 Micheel has continued to roll playing excellent golf. Micheel’s road to the final included a win over Luke Donald in the quarter finals 4 and 2 and victory over Sweden’s Robert Karlsson in the semi-finals 2up.
England Paul Casey has made short work of his opponents on his climb into the final. Casey defeated Retief Goosen 6 and 4 in the opening round, then beat Canadian Mike Weir 5 and 3 in the quarters, then disposed of Colin Montgomerie 6 and 5 in their semi-final match.
